Alisha Farrell

The winter track and field season began this past Saturday for both men and women.  Both teams headed to the Ursinus Bow-Tie Track Classic, where they each had a standout start.  The men placed sixth out of 14 and the women placed ninth out of 15.

One in particular standout was Alisha Farrell, '13, a health science major, who won the pole vault with a height of 2.9 meters.  This was her personal best in pole vault. In addition she placed fourth in the 400 meter dash, which was a personal best and it ranked third on LVC's top 10 list.

The Dutchmen do not have another meet until after break, when there actual conference season begins.  On January 21st both teams will compete at the Collegeville Classic.

Tierney Hiltz

 Women's Basketball wins a close one against rival Elizabethtown this past Wednesday, with a score of 67-61.  The victory gives the Dutchmen its first conference win of the season.

Tierney Hiltz, '13, a criminal justice major, was one of four players who each had 15 points for the night.  Although, Hiltz's points came from mainly three point shots where as the others were from inside the lane.  For her career she has 51 field goals, 17 three point field goals, 141 points, and 44 steals.

The Dutchmen will play another conference game this Saturday against Alvernia at 1.

Joe Meehan

Joe Meehan, '12, physical therapy major, helped the Dutchman to its first Rinso Marquette Tournament title since 2004-05, beating Delaware Valley College 78 to 73.  Because Meehan lead the team in points, with 20 total, he was named Most Valuable Player for the tournament.

Although the season has only just begun for men's basketball, Meehan already has 58 points, 16 assists and three steals for the season. Currently, he is the leader in all of these categories.

The Men play tomorrow against Wilkes University at 7:30.

On a different note, I would like to congratulate Jenn Cronin for an outstanding four years at The Valley.  On Saturday, she placed 41st at nationals, which is a 15 place improvement from last year.  I wish her all the luck in the future.

Lauren Ruhl

A new basketball season brings new players and what a player Lauren Ruhl is.  Lauren, `14, physical therapy major, is the sixth man off the bench for Andrea Hoover.  In her debut Lauren was the leading scorer having 13 points and four steals.  At the game, people were calling her "little Hoover" because she plays just like Andrea.  Ruhl's amazing athleticism lead the team to their first win of the season over Misericordia, 62-52.

Coming up for the Lady Dutchman is an away game against St. Mary's College today at six.

Brendan Riley

FOOTBALL KILLS ALBRIGHT!!!!!!

Saturday's game was the biggest of the season for two reasons.  First, if we win, we could get the Wednesday before Thanksgiving off and second, the team could get a bid to an ECAC Bowl Game.  So far only the second has come true and LVC will play in the South Atlantic Bowl game against Johns Hopkins next Saturday at noon.

During the game against Albright, Brendan Riley, `11, a business major, played his heart out as tight end.  He caught six balls for 68 yards and scored a touchdown.  This would be the most yards for Riley during one game.  For his career he has 395 total receiving yards and has four touchdowns.

According to LVC tradition, Student Government will lead the student body on a march to the President's house (Kreiderheim) on Monday at 4:00 PM. Our march will start at the gazebo.  Come out and join the march.

Caleb Fick

This past Saturday, LVC Football won its sixth game of the season over Lycoming 28-14.  One more win for the Dutchmen guarantees a bowl game in the ECAC's.

Although there was great defensive plays that helped LVC won, Caleb Fick '11, accounting major, also contributed.  Fick had 149 net passing yards compared to 114 by Lycoming.  In addition, Fick ran for 42 yards, threw one touchdown, and completed six third down conversions and one fourth down conversion.

Overall Fick has run for 376 yards, including five rushing touchdowns, completed 425 passes, including 44 touchdown's, and has thrown for over 5,664 yards. 

Coming up for the Dutchmen is the WHITE OUT GAME against Albright this Saturday.  Remember, if we win we get an extra vacation day for Thanksgiving.  Come out and support the team.

Nicole Snyder

LVC Women's Soccer had one goal this past Saturday, to beat Widener.  If the team won their game against Widener, then they would clinch a spot in the Commonwealth Conference Playoffs.

With only 15 minutes in play Nicole Snyder, '13, physical therapy major, scored her seventh goal of the season, making the game 1-0.  That would be the only goal in the game, giving LVC a 3-3-1 record, which qualified them for playoffs.  The last time LVC made it to playoffs was back in 2007.

Over the past two years Snyder has been the leader in goals (14 overall), shots on goal (58overall), and game winning goals (6 overall).  Playoffs begin this week with the #3 seed, LVC traveling to #2 Arcadia Wednesday, with the game time to be determined.

Julia Mongeau

 Winter sport season began this week with the first swimming meet against Albright.  Although in team scores Albright beat LVC, individually LVC had 19 qualifiers for MAC and multiple record setters during the meet.

One record setter was Julia Mongeau, '14, a health science major, broke the record for 100-meter breast stroke and the 200-meter free relay, with a time of 1:21.18 and 2:01.32 respectively. Additionally Mongeau's fourth place in 200-meter free style qualified her for MAC's later this year.

Coming up for the Dutchmen is an away game against Arcadia this Saturday.

Rich Drazin

A new year at LVC, starts a new season and a new league for the LVC Ice Hockey team.  In the past, ice hockey has struggled to achieve a 500 record, but this year the team is already (4-0).  The great start might be attributed to an easier league or the players are getting better.

One in particular outstanding player is Rich Drazin, '11, business administration major, who has been the goalie for the Dutchmen since freshman year.  So far this year Rich has had 108 saves in four games.  His overall save percentage for the three years is .854.

Coming up for the Dutchmen is a home game against Kutztown University this Friday.  The games are held at the old Hershey Bear's Arena, so please come out and support the team.

Michelle Little

LVC Volleyball is still undefeated in the conference with a record of 6-0, and overall record of 19-8.  The Dutchmen are just one win away from claiming the top seed in the conference playoffs for the third straight year.

On Tuesday, volleyball rolled over Alvernia with a score 3-0.  Michelle Little, '11, psychology major, lead the team in kills with 11, which gave her a .333 hitting percentage.

For her career, Little has 814 kills and 810 digs, which makes her the third ranked player for kills and attacks.  Coming up for the Dutchmen is a tournament against Scranton this Saturday and a match against Elizabethtown on Wednesday.

Ben Guiles

Homecoming, a day to catch-up with alumni and a day to watch FOOTBALL and what a day it was.
Football won an exciting game, coming back from a 21 to 0 deficit to beat FDU-Florham in the fourth quarter.  Also there were wins by field hockey, women's soccer, and volleyball.

Ben Guiles '12, a business administration major, tied a school record for most touchdowns in the second quarter, with four altogether.  This allowed LVC to win the game 33 to 21.  Ben is the leading scorer this year for the Dutchmen, with ten touchdowns this season.  His hard work paid off by being named to the Middle Atlantic Conference football honor roll.  Also the game marked his 2,000 career rushing yards. Next week the team takes on Kings at 1pm.

Emily Perkins

Volleyball clinched a playoff spot when they defeated Messiah on Wednesday.  This will be the teams eighth straight appearance in the conference playoffs.

Emily Perkins '11, an accounting major, holds the team record for most assists in a career, with a total of 3,065.  During the match against Messiah, Perkins had 36 assists and eight digs.  Currently, Perkins is ranked 22nd in the nation for assists, but I would bet that will change when the season is over.

Coming up for the Dutchmen is a tournament at MIT this weekend.  The team is also looking to achieve its third straight Commonwealth Title this season and make it into the NCAA's.

Jocelyn Novak

The LVC's Field Hockey team jumped two spots, this past week, giving the team the honor of being ranked #2 in the nation amongst division III schools. The ranking is LVC's 64th in a row and 41st consecutive in the top 10.

Novak '12, a biology/pre-med major, has become the programs leader in points and goals, with 25 goals and 53 points. Also she is the NCAA's active leader with 92 career goals. Her achievements make LVC Field Hockey the nations top rated offense, averaging 6.3 goals per game. This past week she was honored as the  ECAC Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week and the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week. 

Congratulations to Novak for an amazing year so far.  Coming up for the team is an away game against Haverford on Thursday and a home game against Arcadia this Saturday.

James Clements

LVC's Men's Soccer played Scranton this past Wednesday, making their record 6-4 overall.  A key player for all of their wins has to be sophomore James Clements, an Actuarial Science major.  This is his first year as the goal keeper for the Dutchmen and he already has 40 saves that count for 4 of the teams 6 wins and one shut out.
Coming up for the Dutchmen is the start of conference play, including a big game against Alvernia and Elizabethtown, next week.

John Wallace

This season the Men's Cross Country team are working hard to capture a conference title.  Last weekend the men competed at the Paul Short Invitational, where John was the first Dutchmen to score.  Out of all runners, John placed 34th, with a time of 27.18.  Although this is his first season running cross country at LVC, he has been running since middle school for fun.  In addition,  John has placed in the top three for the Dutchmen this season. John's future looks good for LVC.
The next invitational is this Saturday at Desales.

Ethan Grodzinski

The Men's Tennis dominated the game against Cabrini on Saturday, with a final score of 9-0.  Ethan Grodzinski '13 an Art and Art History major, is the number one singles player on the team.  In Ethan's singles match-up against Ian Monson, Ethan prevailed with a score of 6-1.  Then, in the doubles match-up, Ethan along with his partner Tom Neckelmann beat Ian Monson and Walter Jesuncosky 8-1.  This is the second year Ethan has held the title of being the number one player for both singles and doubles.  The team plays again this Saturday at 2:30 against Ursinus.

Jenn Cronin

Jenn Cronin '11 a spanish education and history major, is the number one runner for Dutchmen Cross Country.  Last year Jenn qualified for nationals, which was the first time for any Dutchmen Cross Country runner.  She also was the regional champion and came in the top three at all of her meets.
This year Jenn has continued her streak as being in the top three.  So far she has placed first in all of her meets, but today will be a test, as the team goes to the best invitational on the east coast.
The Paul Short Invitational brings in all divisions of cross county.  Last year Jenn placed third for division three and she is looking to beat that this year.  Below is a video of the teams practice.

Sara Drabenstadt

 Sara had the only goal yesterday, allowing LVC Women Soccer to beat Desales, 1-0.  In this season, Sara has had 2 goals, 10 shots and 5 shots on goal.  For her career Sara now has 6 goals, 37 shots, and 24 shots on goal.

The girls have been struggling this year having a record of 6-4-1 in out of conference play.  This Saturday the team begins its conference play, taking on nationally ranked Messiah at noon. Come out and support the team.

Matthew Reed

The Golf team has now had two tournaments.  The first at Woodstone Country Club, the team placed 19th overall and the second at Susquehanna Valley Country Club, the team placed 14th overall.  But the standout for the Dutchmen would have to be freshmen Matthew Reed, who shot an 86 in both tournaments, the lowest on the team.  It is going to be interesting to see how this freshmen makes out as the season continues.
The LVC Invitational is next Monday at the Lebanon Country Club, come out and support the team.

Emily Hopkins

LVC Volleyball stayed undefeated last night by beating Widener in a close three set match-up.  The girls looked strong as they went up 20-13 in the first set.  In the second set, the score remained close, but Widener commmited an attack error causing LVC is win the set.  In the third, LVC was down by 6 points, but the girls rallied and came back to win.  Emily assisted the kill by Snyder, winning the set as well as the whole match-up.  The video below shows highlights from the game against Widener.

Emily, known for her height, has 88 kills for her career, the highest on the team.  She also comes in second for spikes with 32 and 9 blocks.

They play this Friday and Saturday at the Franklin and Marshall Tournament. Come out and support the girls as they try for another shot at NCAA's.

Tam Lobb

Tam Lobb and her teammate Lauren Fulmer destroyed Goucher's doubles team 8-3 yesterday.  This made Tam's all time record 14-9 in doubles and 11-7 with teammate Lauren. 

The girls play Susquehanna tomorrow and Neumann on Monday.  Come out and support the team.

Zach Bleiler

The LVC Football team had there first win on Saturday, defeating Moravian University, 21-6. However, the offense did not win the game, it was the defense that worked hard this time.  They held Moravian to 176 yards, whereas LVC had over 300 yards rushing.
But the standout at this game had to be Zach Bleiler.  He tied the schools single-game record, with four sacks and had nine tackles. In total Bleiler has 20 career sacks, making him the third all-time on LVC's sacks list. Additionally, he blocked an extra-point kick.

In two weeks the boys take on #8 Delaware Valley, to start their MAC play. Come out and cheer on our football team.

Chris Hall



LVC dominated the game against Eastern Mennonite.  Chris had the most points scoring 3 goals, a.k.a. a hat trick, to win the game.  This season he has had 4 goals in five games and throughout his three years at LVC he has had 18 goals and two hat tricks.  A hat trick means he scored 3 consecutive goals in one game.  Chris also leads the team in points, goals, shots, and shots on goal.  Saturday, the men play Moravian at 12:30.  Come out and support our fellow athletes.

Brittany Ryan


Even though the football team lost this past friday, there was something to cheer about. Brittany Ryan tied the NCAA record for career points by a female kicker, equalling West Alabama's Tonya Butler with 87 career points. She is also now four away from tying the LVC all-time PAT mark of 76.  In the past two games, she completed 4 out of 5 PAT's.  Come to the games on Saturday's and cheer Brittany on.

Allison Bicher

Allison Bicher (Senior Captain, field hockey)

In three games, Allison has had 5 goals to start the season. She leads the team in shot percentage with a .417. Allison is also the leader of points and comes in second for goals, shots, and shots on goals. She was awarded the Commonwealth Conference offensive filed hockey player of the week.
